Spinning Turbine Vent Noise
Connie Ruffennach lives in Arlington, Texas. As we all know, Texas can have some wild weather. Guess what happened to her attic ventilator turbine vent?
Let her give you the details:
"We had a sleet storm this morning.
My attic ventilator is spinning crazily and is making a knocking sound.
What could be causing this?"
Connie, without seeing it, my guess would be that there was an ice buildup on the metal attic ventilator. If the ice is not evenly distributed on the lightweight metal spinning whirlybird, then it can get out of balance much like a car tire.
I'd wait until the weather warms up and then see if it's still making the annoying racket. If so, you may just have to get up on the roof and try to bend the ventilator so it's balanced again.
I feel it's going to take care of itself when the ice melts.

UPDATE:
A few hours after I answered Connie's question she replied back to me:
"All quiet!"
Well you know what that means don't you? It was ice, the temperature rose and the turbine vent was back to normal.
